Korea’s Pistol Legend Jongoh Jin Shoots World Record En-route to 16th World Cup Gold in Munich


New Delhi, May 20, 2017: Competition Day two at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup (Rifle/Pistol) stagebeing held at the Olympic Shooting Range in Munich, Germany, saw Korean Pistol legend Jongoh Jin shoot his 16th World Cup Gold to win the Men’s 50m Pistol event ahead of Portugal’s Joao Costa and Serbia’s DimitrijeGrgic. In the process, the four-time Olympic champion and two-time World Champion shot a score of 230.5 in the final to erase Indian ace Jitu Rai’s effort of 230.1 set en-route to winning the Gold at this year’s first World Cup stage in New Delhi, India, earlier this year.

Earlier, India’s Jitu Rai shot 551 in qualification to finish 32nd, Prakash Nanjappa shot 549 to finish 39th while Amanpreet Singh ended in 60th position shooting a score of 537. Amanpreet was part of a 1-2 finish for India in the event in New Delhi. Jongoh entered the eight-man Men’s 50m Pistol Final shooting a score of 561 to qualify in sixth position.

Neeraj Kumar of India, in the Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, shot a quality 291 in the precision round to lie 11th and within reach of a second successive World Cup Final if he shoots well in the rapid fire round on Sunday, which precedes the event Final.

His teammates Gurpreet Singh shot 289 to be in 20th sport while Harpreet shot 286 to be placed 33rd.

India’s challenge in the Women’s 25m Pistol was however snuffed out in the qualifying rounds when the trio of Muskan, RahiSarnobat and SurabhiPathak finished with identical score of scores of 572 and in 41st, 43rd and 46th positions respectively.

The other final of Sunday will be in the Men’s 50m Rifle Pronewhere Olympians Sanjeev Rajput and Chain Singh along with SushilGhaley smoothly entered the qualification round without hiccups.

Late on Friday, MeghanaSajjanar, playing in only her second World Cup, was the best Indian in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle, shooting 417.4 in qualification to finish 15th.Pooja Ghatkar ended 37th with a score of 415.6 while Apurvi Chandela shot 413.9 to end in 54th spot.
