Ankur Mittal Wins Double Trap Gold at 7th Asian Shotgun Championship in Kazakhstan


Double Delight for India on Day One of Competitions as they also Win the Men’s Team Gold in the event
 
New Delhi, August 05, 2017: Ankur Mittal continued his brilliant form this year when he landed the Double Trap Gold at the 7th Asian Championship Shotgun, being held at Astana, Kazakhstan’s Target Shooting Club. Ankur ensured India got off the blocks with a bang on day one of competitions itself, when he also landed the Team Gold in the event in the company of Md. Asab and Sangram Dahiya.
 
In the individual Double Trap event, Ankur shot 137 out of 150 to qualify for the semi-finals fifth, among six qualifiers. Compatriot Sangram Dahiya shot 140 to lead the qualifiers while Md. Asab qualified in second position. He then setup a Gold medal match-up with UAE’s Khaled AlKaabi shooting 27 to finish second to AlKaabi’s 28.
 
In the brilliantly fought Gold-medal match, Ankur eventually pipped AlKaabi 71-70 to land his second international Gold of the year after winning an ISSF World Cup stage Gold in Acapulco, Mexico. He had also landed Silver at the New Delhi World Cup stage earlier in March. Saif AlShamsy, also of the UAE won the Bronze in the event,
 
Sangram Dahiya finished fourth while Md.Asab finished fifth. The trio’s efforts in qualification however ensured that India easily won the Team Gold with a combined score of 415. UAE won Silver with a score of 407 while China with 390 won the Bronze.
 
Sunday will see the commencement of pre-event training for Trap competitions before Mondaywitnesses the Women’s Trap finals. Seema Tomar, Shreyasi Singh and Rajeshwari Kumari will represent India in the Women’s Trap.
