Mairaj and Rashmmi Help India Sign Off With Gold at Asian Shotgun Championship


New Delhi, August 13, 2017: India signed off with a Gold medal at the7th Asian Championship Shotgun, in Astana, Kazakhstan, when the pair of Mairaj Ahmad Khan and RashmmiRathore won the Skeet Mixed Team event on the concluding day. They beat the Chinese pair of Liu Jiangchi and GaoJianmei 28-27 in the Gold medal match. The host pair of VladislavMukhamediyev and Olga Panarina won the Bronze.

In an event billed as test event, Mairaj and Rashmmi qualified for the semi-finals stage in fifth place out of 10 teams, when they shot a combined score of 93. They scored the same as the Silver winning Chinese pair, but came second (4-3) in a shoot-off with them to determine the rankings.

In their semi-final they overcame the Bronze winning Kazakhstan team 28-27, before moving on to beat the Chinese duo in the Gold medal match.

India therefore concluded the 7th Asian Championship Shotgun with a total kitty of eight medals. Ankur Mittal had earlier won Gold in the Men’s Double Trap. He had also helped India win the Team Gold in the event.

Then KynanChenai won Bronze in the Men’s Trap and also partnered Shreyasi Singh to win the Trap Mixed Team Bronze. MaheshwariChauhan also won Bronze in the Women’s Skeet along with a team Silver in the event before the Men’s Skeet team picked up a Bronze on Saturday, the penultimate day of the event.

The results will serve as good encouragement for the upcoming Shotgun World Championships in Moscow, beginning August 30.
