Manu Bhaker, Anish Help India Consolidate Top Position at Junior Shooting World Cup


New Delhi, June 27, 2017: India’sManu Bhaker, blazed her way to her year’s seventh International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Gold and third world record to add to her Commonwealth Games Gold, winning the 10m Air Pistol Women Junior event, on competition day five of the second and final ISSF Junior World Cup being held in Suhl, Germany. She also won Bronze in the team event of the same discipline for her 10th international medal of the year, on a day which also saw another Indian prodigy AnishBhanwala claim Bronze in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol (RFP) Junior Men’s event, to swell India’s table topping medal tally to 17 with a day’s competition to go.

Manu shot 242.5 in the 24-shot final, to claim yet another junior world record, shrugging off the challenge of China’s Kaiman Lu, whose Silver winning effort of 236.9, was a massive 5.6 points behind Manu’s tally. Fellow Chinese Xue Li won Bronze with a final round score of 216.2. She had earlier combined with teammates MahimaTurhiAgrawal and DevanshiRana to win the Team Bronze with a total score of 1694 after the qualification round.

To give a sense of Manu’s dominance in the final, she was ahead of the field by 3.4 points after 10 shots, 3.8 after 12 and a huge 6.1 after 18 shots before closing out with lots to spare.

Reigning Commonwealth Games Champion AnishBhanwala, claimed his fourth international medal of the year, when he shot 24 in the Junior Men’s final of the 25m RFP to win Bronze. He had earlier shot 575 in qualifying to be fifth out of the top six to make it to the final. The Gold went to MatejRampula of the Czech Republic while China’s Jueming Zhang won Silver with final scores of 30 and 28 respectively.

India now have total of nine Golds, one Silver and seven Bronze medals from the competition which has seen participation of 761 athletes from 61 countries.
